I'...Philippa, thanks so much for your comments! I've read the 2nd book you mention but not the 1st. I'm so glad you found my book, & the threads piece, helpful. Thanks for recommending it to others too!Kate Whartonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13231541941776830784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1448074423221504230.post-43696443471404986282013-09-02T10:56:08.066+01:002013-09-02T10:56:08.066+01:00Well, I've just begun to read your book and it...Well, I've just begun to read your book and it's brilliant. Definitely one of the best books on singleness I've ever read. Very clear, very honest, very readable and biblical without preachy (what a wonderful thing THAT is).

I read the comments on Threads and I thought that the folk who were going on about your post being 'bitter' sounded rather bitter themselves. ;) And defensive! The minority of detractors (and they were a minority) definitely did not get it at all. You were bang on the money, and of course you weren't having a 'go' at married people.

In recent years I read two American books: Connally Gilliam's 'Revelations of a Single Woman: loving the life I didn’t expect' - like you, she deals with sexuality and celibacy in a refreshingly honest way. And Carolyn McCulley's 'Did I kiss marriage goodbye?' - winsome and honest, although the book avoids the sexuality discussion (which is crucial to have, IMO.)

I have no patience with the 'gift of singleness' theology, which I think is unhelpful and hurtful. I much prefer your angle on it: grace to live whatever circumstance we are living in. (And I would add, faith to trust that God will work out all things for good, whether we get married or remain single).

Good article here, a bunch of Christian women - both evangelical and Catholic - discussing singleness and sexuality:
http://www.todayschristianwoman.com/articles/2012/april/singlelife.html?start=2

And Paige Benton Brown's essay is something of a classic:
http://www.pcpc.org/ministries/singles/singledout.php

I've already recommended your book to two other single friends of mine. :) Am absolutely devouring it.

God bless!

Philippa

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1448074423221504230.post-85858666142959541662013-08-18T23:16:53.477+01:002013-08-18T23:16:53.477+01:00Is this it - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_sab...Is this it - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_sabc?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&pageMinusResults=1&suo=1376864179244#/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=kate%20wharton%20single%20minded&sprefix=kate+%2Cdigital-text&rh=i%3Adigital-text%2Ck%3Akate%20wharton%20single%20minded ?Kate Whartonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13231541941776830784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1448074423221504230.post-66997651954776209612013-08-18T23:02:46.471+01:002013-08-18T23:02:46.471+01:00Do you know if your book will be available in the ...Do you know if your book will be available in the Kindle store in the USA?

bbAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17490745238430648958noreply@blogger.com
